The prison has been very slow to make changes to improve Yulia's conditions. It has helped when people write emails to the prison to raise concerns and to ask for improvements.

Here is a letter template that you can use - please choose which aspects you wish to keep or delete.

Whilst it is best for people to write their own letters, you could mention some of these things:

• Yulia should receive all the items she has been sent in, including a reading lamp, shoes, craft materials, and a kettle

• She should be allowed to receive non-fiction books, including mainstream books relating to religion, politics and LGBTQ+ topics

• She should get the full length of her visits, as most of her visitors are travelling from four hours away and being let in late

• She should have access to a suitable chaplain, which she has so far not had

You could also express your concern:

• that Yulia is kept on remand full stop, given there is no evidence that she has hurt anybody

• that Yulia and her co-defendants are still being treated like terrorists, even though they are not facing terrorism charges

• that the prison's treatment of Yulia so far has caused her further trauma

• that the prison is not clear about certain protocol when contacted, including providing information about approved items
